Grainfree Protein Porridge

This is a super delicious “porridge” without all the grains but equally creamy, sweet and warm. It will make you feel so good and fill you up for hours too!

Are you familiar with the concept of Whole30? In its essence, it’s basically eating whole foods for 30 days and then slowly reintroducing them one by one to figure out food intolerances or allergies. I know my intolerance (soy for the most part) and got to know those after doing the program many years ago. Now I use it more as a healthy detox kind of month which I do every now and then.

I am perfectly fine with lunch and dinner since I’m a big fan of potatoes and vegetables anyways but breakfast has always been a bit of a problem for me when I eat whole30 food. According to the program, it’s easiest to just treat it as an additional meal and eat leftovers from last night or for example eggs and vegetables / protein. But I don’t love eggs for breakfast and for sure not every day of the week. And definitely not leftovers from the night before, that’s just not what I’m craving first thing in the morning.

You guys probably know about my deep love for oatmeal of any kind for breakfast. So naturally I wanted to create a porridge that is similar to oatmeal but contains no grains. It’s delicious and super filling. I love the similarity to “real” porridge because it’s also warm, creamy and sweet. And you can of course top it with whatever your heart desires! It’s not strictly Whole30 to be fair but it can be made Whole30 very easily by switching protein powders.

As you can see, I love to use the typical triangle of goodness for my toppings. Creamy almond butter, crunchy cacao nibs and roasted nuts and some fruit for sweetness and freshness. For me, this is the perfect combo but I’m sure any kind of fruit and nut butter would be lovely! Just keep in mind, if you want this to be strictly Whole30 and not just grain free, then peanut butter is a no on the program.

Also, again, if you want this to be strictly Whole30, you would have to use a Whole30 compliant protein powder. Mine – while being vegan – contains rice so that’s also not allowed. However, protein powder from approved ingredients like 100% pea protein, 100% grass-fed collagen peptides, or 100% hemp protein are allowed on the Whole30, provided they contain no added sweeteners.

Will you make this a healthy breakfast soon? Or how about Peanut Butter & Jam Oatmeal?
