This Chocolate Protein Smoothie Bowl is packed full of good stuff! It's made with my favourite hidden ingredient to make it extra thick and creamy - frozen cauliflower. It's vegan and refined sugar free and so delicious!
Smoothie Bowls are one of my favourite things to eat for breakfast. It's either some kind of porridge or a smoothie bowl. In particular on a hot summer's day, it's such a refreshing and light yet filling breakfast to start the day with. Plus you can top it with whatever you like - always a plus for me! I love how versatile toppings make a smoothie bowl!
I used to love getting the Chocolate Protein Smoothie Bowl at my favourite cafe for smoothie bowls in Munich. Sure, we didn't get one often because they're honestly not exactly low in price but I always LOVED it. Then one day I registered my tummy wasn't happy after eating it so I investigated what milk they used in it. And unfortunately they use soy milk. I realized a couple of years ago that I am soy intolerant (which is really sad cause I absolutely loved tofu and pretty much all soy products until then).
So I had pretty much given up on ever having the chocolate protein smoothie bowl again, when I realized I could simply try to recreate it! So here we have it, a soy free Chocolate Protein Smoothie Bowl! YUM! Of course you can use any milk of your choice (including soy milk) but I love making it with almond milk.
This recipe contains a lot of ingredients that are great for your body. Banana, date, cauliflower, protein powder and almond milk. It's vegan and refined sugar free and really delicious! You can have it grain-free like me by topping it with fruit, nuts, grated coconut, cacao nibs and some almond butter. Or feel free to top it with your favourite granola!
I topped mine with banana and fresh figs because chocolate and figs work so well together! But you can totally use any fruit you like. I imagine berries or any stone fruit would be fantastic as well.
Also, I used a vegan unsweetened soy free chocolate protein powder that I love. I prefer it unsweetened as you can always adjust the sweetness that way (if needed). If you're using a sweetened protein poweder, you might want to omit the date or the smoothie bowl will potentially be too sweet.

Take your banana(s) out of the freezer (if using whole bananas) and wait for 5 minutes so that they're easier to handle.
Cut the date into small pieces. Add the date, ice cubes, cacao powder, protein powder and almond milk into a blender. Blitz on high speed until all is well combined and the ice cubes are fully incorporated.
Then peel and cut your banana (or bananas, depending on what size you're using) into thin slices. Add to the blender together with the cauliflower rice.
Blend until all is smooth. Depending on the strength of your blender or mixer, you will need to push the smoothie bowl mixture down in between.
Pour into a bowl and top with fresh fruit of your choice, mixed chopped nuts, grated coconut, cacao nibs and almond butter. Enjoy!
